County-Level Resources

The following resources are available in each county:

• Community Action Agencies - CAAs are located in local communities. The goal is to promptly stabilize a family to help them become self-sufficient.
• Departments of Social Services - County departments of social services provide a wide variety of social work and economic services as well as direct services that address issues of poverty, family violence, and exploitation.
• Local Management Entities – Managed Care Organizations (LME-MCOs) - Individuals seeking behavioral healthcare and/or psychiatric care should contact their local LME-MCO.
• Public Housing Authorities (PHA) - Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to apartments. PHAs use HUD income limits and vary from area to area, so you may be eligible at one HA but not at another. If you are interested in applying for public housing, contact your local Public Housing Authority directly.
• Rental Assistance - A number of agencies, non-profit organizations, churches, charities, and government programs can assist low-income families and individuals facing emergencies to pay rent and housing expenses.
• Veteran Services - The goal is to ensure all those who serve or have served, and their loved ones, are made aware of and maximize the benefits and resources available. Veteran Services information is provided on most North Carolina county websites.
